This is my first 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules from Fadra from all.things.fadra…
- Set a timer and write for 5 minutes only.
- Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
- Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
- Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
- Link up your post on her page.
- Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

I enjoyed my final morning of summer vacation by sleeping in until 8:48. Beginning tomorrow, 5:30a.m. becomes my new normal. Call me crazy, but I am always ready to return to school this time of year. I love my job and am eager to meet my new batch of 9-year-olds.
I also am ready to get my own kids back into a routine. As is the case in many homes during the summer months, they have had a bit too much together time. They can barely be in the same room these days without bickering. Hmmm….bickering sounds too tame. They have been nagging, antagonizing, almost constantly playing that you say black, I say white game. It’s time for some time apart.
Our school supplies have been purchased and I have a 5 foot long receipt from STaples showing exactly where my almost $200.00 went. Lovey had to get a scientific calculator with a fraction button. I already hate that calculator and everything it represents. I forsee headaches and some tears this school year regarding math and that forsaken calculator. Math is not my subject and it isn’t hers either.
It’s a cloudy day here today, which is ok. I’ll spend some time organizing a few things around the house in preparation for my big return to the world of the working tomorrow. And my 5 minutes is up so no time for a witty or wonderfully all encompassing closing sentence. Bummer.

I’ve just done my first SOC post but what I love about it already is no pressure to have a “witty or wonderful all encompassing closing sentence”. Oh yeah, good luck with that up at 5:30am thing.
This is my first SOCS too and it was so nice to be done and published in 5 minutes! I’ll be back for sure!
Oh, the end of summer vacation. I don’t yet have kids in school, but whenever I hear about parents preparing for another school year, my heart drops a bit, recalling my own time in school and how things will one day be for me and my daughter when she gets older.

It is definitely an adjustment, but I am ready for a more structured day. Even though in a month or so I will be ready for another vacation break!
I sucked at math, really bad. Mini-Me going through high school math was a nightmare! (thank God for my husband, Paul!)
Getting up early is not high on my list of things I enjoy, lol. I’ve never been much of a morning person. Hope you have a great school year!
Thanks for visiting my blog earlier! I love your moon theme!

I get used to the early wake up call pretty quickly. If only I could stay up until midnight and get up early, I could be really productive!
Ugh, math!! I am lucky I can add. When my son grows up, he will never be able to ask me for help with math. Thank God his dad gets it, because I sure don’t. Solve for x? What? And fractions? I distinctly remember learning fractions and percents in 7th grade. I was SO BAD at it. It was awful.
Good luck with the start of the school year!!
Visiting from SOCS.

Yep, this is 7th grade. She always say “Mom, you’re a teacher, how do you not know this stuff?” I am a teacher of words, not numbers! Let the fun begin
I love the start of the school year, too…. glad to hear it from a teacher’s perspective.
My 5 minutes ran out before I was too witty or wise, but I am always grateful I took the time to write.
Welcome to SOCSunday!

Me too. I am always glad I took the time to write
.
I like this idea. Thanks for sharing it.
I am a 4th grade teacher and I teach three math classes and one social studies class. I was an ELA teacher for almost 30 years, and then switched a few years ago. Sounds like you and your daughter need some math people in your PLN (personal learning network). I don’t know if you are on Twitter or if you use Facebook, but those are two great resources to post questions you are having trouble with and get responses. When I am stuck on something I turn to my PLN on Twitter and get an answer very quickly. I know people who do the same thing with Facebook. Try it out. Good luck to both of you with 7th grade math.

Thanks for the idea to pose those math questions on twitter! We sometimes use a math teacher friend via text and phone calls, but I will definitely use twitter too.
Ugh, I remember that calculator! I hope you enjoyed the last day of summer vacation and have a GREAT school year!

I did enjoy and thanks!
Hi! Following from the SOCS hop. Have a great school year!!
Thanks Ashley!
I can understand wanting to start with a fresh batch of kids and wanting to get some routine back in your life. But I CANNOT fathom the early morning wake up. I would do anything to avoid that (speaking as a former teacher!)
So glad you joined in!
